As a Standalone HR Business Partner based in Chennai, you will lead end-to-end HR operations for the India engineering center, including payroll, recruitment, onboarding, compliance, compensation administration, and employee lifecycle management. You will partner with local and Australian stakeholders to deliver operational excellence, support business growth, and act as the primary HR advisor for a workforce of approximately 80-120 employees.

Our client is a globally established engineering and construction solutions organization. The Chennai office serves as a key technical and digital engineering hub, supporting international operations through engineering support.

Job Description

  • Act as the sole HR professional supporting the India business and serve as the primary point of contact for all people-related matters.
  • Own end-to-end HR operations, ensuring seamless employee lifecycle management from onboarding through exit.
  • Coordinate monthly payroll processing through ADP, ensuring payroll accuracy, timelines, and compliance requirements are met.
  • Partner closely with Finance teams to validate payroll inputs, salary changes, leave records, reimbursements, and fund availability.
  • Manage employee onboarding processes and ensure a positive and professional new joiner experience.
  • Lead recruitment activities across technical and business functions, including agency management, candidate screening, interview coordination, and offer management.

The Successful Applicant

  • 10-15 years of experience in HR Generalist, HRBP, or HR Operations roles.
  • Experience working in a standalone HR capacity or within lean HR structures with high ownership.
  • Strong exposure to HR operations, employee lifecycle management, and HR administration.
  • Hands-on payroll coordination experience, preferably working with ADP or similar payroll platforms.
  • Experience managing recruitment processes including sourcing coordination, screening, stakeholder management, and onboarding.
  • Strong understanding of labour laws, statutory compliance requirements, and external compliance management.
  • Experience partnering with finance teams on payroll and employee-related processes.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the confidence to engage senior leaders and technical teams.
