Reporting directly to the Co-Founder & CTO and working closely with the founders, you will shape the technical direction of the entire product and redefine how the engineering organization builds with AI.

The company is challenging a category traditionally dominated by complex, over-engineered legacy platforms with a product focused on simplicity, automation and intelligent customer experiences. As the business accelerates its AI roadmap, it is looking for a Principal Engineer who can bridge deep backend engineering with practical AI execution, taking AI agents and intelligent systems from architecture and experimentation into reliable, scalable production environments.

Job Description

  • Own the backend architecture and technical direction across the company's product portfolio.
  • Design and scale distributed systems, APIs, data platforms, cloud infrastructure and core engineering platforms.
  • Set technical standards around scalability, reliability, performance and engineering quality.
  • Lead the integration of AI agents and agentic workflows into production, working across orchestration, retrieval, tool use, context and observability.
  • Build the backend infrastructure required to make AI systems reliable, scalable, measurable and cost-efficient.
  • Develop AI-powered engineering tools, including developer tooling, code generation and AI-assisted QA.
  • Stay hands-on - prototype, code and validate critical technical decisions.
  • Partner directly with the Co-Founder & CTO, founders and CPO on long-term technology strategy.

The Successful Applicant

  • 10-15 years of engineering experience, with a strong foundation in backend engineering and distributed systems.
  • 10+ years building scalable Cloud/SaaS products, enterprise platforms or developer infrastructure.
  • Deep expertise in backend architecture, distributed systems, APIs, databases and cloud infrastructure.
  • Proven experience shipping AI-powered systems or AI agents into production.
  • Strong practical understanding of agent orchestration, tool calling, retrieval, context management, evaluation and observability.
  • Ability to solve the production challenges around reliability, latency, scale, security and cost of AI systems.
  • Strong hands-on coding and architecture skills, with a bias toward building rather than simply reviewing.
  • Proven ability to influence senior engineering and product leaders and raise the technical bar across an organization.
  • Excellent communicator who can simplify complex technical decisions for founders and executive stakeholders.
