We're partnering with a venture-backed fintech company entering a critical scale-up phase and looking for a Head of Engineering to help shape both its technology platform and engineering organisation.This is a builder-first leadership role for someone who thrives in ambiguity, remains close to architecture and execution, and wants to leave a lasting imprint on product, culture, hiring, and engineering excellence.

Job Description

Engineering Vision & Technical Direction

  • Define the long-term technical vision and engineering roadmap
  • Drive architecture decisions across platform, backend, mobile and infrastructure
  • Ensure scalability, performance, security, resilience and operational readiness
  • Establish engineering principles, tooling standards and development practices



Building the Engineering Organisation

  • Scale a high-performing engineering function capable of supporting rapid growth
  • Hire, mentor and develop engineering managers and senior engineers
  • Build leadership depth and succession within the organisation
  • Create a culture centred around ownership, accountability, speed and excellence



Founder & Business Partnership

  • Partner closely with founders on strategic and operational priorities
  • Convert business objectives into clear technical execution plans
  • Work cross-functionally with Product, Design, Compliance and Operations
  • Balance growth demands with long-term platform investment decisions



Engineering Operations

  • Establish engineering metrics and performance frameworks
  • Improve delivery predictability and execution quality
  • Drive observability, incident management and reliability practices
  • Build scalable systems, processes and operating rhythms



The Successful Applicant

  • 10-12 years of software engineering experience, including leadership within high-growth product companies.
  • Strong hands-on expertise in backend systems, distributed architecture, and scaling products from 0→1 and beyond.
  • Proven experience building and leading engineering teams while operating in fast-paced, ambiguous environments.
  • Founder mindset with a track record of ownership, resilience, and ideally experience in fintech or other regulated industries.
