Job Description

This role owns the platform that enterprise applications run on - the Kubernetes estate on AWS, and everything that determines whether it stays available, secure, and upgradeable. That means architecting and operating clusters, but it also means being the person who plans a control-plane upgrade across environments without taking production down, and who can explain to a security review exactly how tenant isolation is enforced and where the secrets actually live. This role does not work as a pipeline-maintenance and ticket-triage play. The person needs genuine depth in Kubernetes internals to make the platform decisions, then stand behind them operationally when the cluster misbehaves at an inconvenient hour.

The Successful Applicant

We're looking for someone who has:

  • 10+ years in DevOps, platform engineering, or SRE roles with a sustained Kubernetes focus. Consuming a managed cluster someone else operates will not meet the bar - this role requires ownership of the platform itself.
  • Expert-level production Kubernetes experience, on EKS or upstream Kubernetes, including upgrades, backup and restore, and rolling deployments across environments.
  • Deep internals knowledge: etcd, control plane, scheduler, admission controllers, and the API server - enough to debug behaviour, not only configure it.
  • Security primitives in practice: RBAC, Network Policies, CRDs, and Pod Security Admission standards.
  • HashiCorp Vault integration using the Kubernetes auth method and secrets injection, in a production environment.
  • Service mesh in production: hands-on Istio and/or Linkerd deployment and operation. AWS infrastructure depth: IAM, VPC, EC2, ALB/NLB, and CloudWatch.
  • Automation toolchain: Terraform, Helm, and scripting in Bash, Python, or Go, with working GitOps and CI/CD practice
