About Our Client

One of the fastest growing insurance companies.

Job Description

  • Contractor & Project Risk Assessment: Build and own a practical framework to assess contractor quality - covering financial strength, liquidity, execution capability, banking arrangements, and guarantee exposure. Go beyond consolidated numbers to project-level financials, and identify red flags such as aggressive accounting, hidden leverage, related-party dependencies, and promoter risk.
  • Contract & Bond Structure: Review Read and interpret tender documents and underlying contracts to identify what exactly is being guaranteed and what could trigger a claim. Evaluate the purpose, structure, and invocation risk of all bond types - performance, advance payment, maintenance, bid, retention, DSRA, customs, and arbitration bonds - before business is written.
  • Portfolio Management & Monitoring: Own the health of the companies surety portfolio - tracked by contractor, group, project, employer, and sector. Build early-warning indicators and act on them. Recommend whether limits should be increased, maintained, tightened, or withdrawn - well before invocation risk surfaces.
  • Underwriting & System Building: Convert practical judgement into structured underwriting rules, pricing principles, and system controls. Build frameworks that are repeatable and scalable - so the business grows without becoming dependent on any one individual. Train and upskill internal teams over time.
  • Risk Control Framework - Develop underwriting frameworks for performance, advance payment, maintenance, bid and other surety bonds. Build early-warning indicators covering cash flows, receivables, delays, cost overruns, bank limit utilization, litigation and employer conduct.
  • Market Engagement: Participate in conversations with contractors, brokers, and project owners - bringing risk credibility. The goal is to distinguish good business from business that merely looks attractive.

The Successful Applicant

  • Education: Chartered Accountant (CA)
  • Experience: 10-15 years in a construction or infrastructure contracting firm, preferably with turnover between ₹250 Crore and ₹1,000 Crore.
  • Current/Past Role: CFO, Finance Controller, Head of Finance, Project Finance Head, or Treasury/Commercial Finance Leader in a contractor firm - someone who has personally owned financial decisions, not just reported on them.
  • Must Have - Directly Handled: a) Project-wise cash flows and profitability b) Working capital limits and banking arrangements c) Bank guarantee limits, margins, collateral, and invocation scenarios d) Tender and contract conditions e) Performance, advance payment, retention, and maintenance obligations f) Cost overruns, receivables, certified vs. uncertified bills, and retention money g) Stressed projects, lender discussions, and promoter-level negotiations
  • Commercial Mindset: Ability to challenge proposals, reject weak business, and build scalable controls - not just supply domain knowledge to a sales team.

What's on Offer

  • A genuine leadership mandate - build the contractor-risk philosophy and underwriting architecture for an emerging, high-growth segment in Indian insurance
  • A platform to define how surety is underwritten and grown in India's booming infrastructure sector
  • A culture that rewards ownership, independent thinking, and bold risk judgement
