About Our Client
Our client is a product-startup helping restaurants market, engage and sell to more customers online. Most restaurants would shut down shop within a year of starting up & this is not because they serve bad food or are expensive but because they fail to reach out to enough customers to cover costs. Our client helps restaurants by designing products that bridge the disconnect between restaurants and customers.
This position would work very closely with product and business teams to understand product requirements participate in product planning and then align technology team to deliver the product. One of the biggest responsibilities of this position would be building technology team through timely hiring / growing existing people and ensuring team is operating efficiently and is being productive. This position would be responsible for building strong tech culture where people are motivated to achieve business goals by leveraging technology.
This position would be responsible for taking long-term decisions related to technology /
languages / databases and infrastructure by taking into account current product + business
understanding and evaluating long-term maintenance and running costs as product scales.
Given spread of the products and inter-product dependencies, this position would involve
setting-up and reiterating processes to align all stakeholders from technology / QA / infra teams
for timely delivery. Our business software play a critical role in marketing / operations of the
restaurant so along with product delivery - stability and scalability would be another important
focus area for this position
Along with technology, this position should also have strong business understanding to make
right judgement calls related to product prioritisation / tradeoffs in technology as and when
needed. Besides tech team, this position would be responsible for sharing technology vision to
other stakeholders of the company including our investors
The Successful Applicant
1. Strong tech background - someone who has architected applications in past and has
seen chaos of scaling-up applications + has exposure in following -
a. Micro-services architecture
b. Hands on exposure in following technologies in past - Java / Mongo / MySQL /
c. Distributed systems with ~ 100 TPS
d. Updated with new technology advancements and leveraged them in recent
e. Good to have
a. Exposure on building analytics products / data pipelining
b. Exposure in - Node / Couch / Python / React / Cassandra
c. Exposure in building offline applications
2. Managed infrastructure in past - handled cloud / self-managed infra in past for
distributed applications and have owned costs / uptime in previous roles. Should have
also built infra for continuous deployment.
3. Strong focus on quality releases - Built QA processes and implemented automation
frameworks for stability of system.
4. Team management - someone who has managed team size of ~ 30 developers + QA +
infra and has taken decisions independently in prevoius roles
a. Built strong engineering teams and culture which is demonstrated in less attrition
b. Worked directly with relatively junior people (<4 years) and grew them to make
them product/feature owners
c. Worked with developers in the range of 15-20 lacs (3-5 years experience people)
who have owned products independently.
5. Process driven - implemented tech processes in previous roles and owned yearly
product releases with high level visibility of product roadmap and strong predictability on

a. Have built frameworks to define productivity of team and predictability of releases
b. Have defined frameworks for stability of the system
